Some interesting Displacement Map images. Aparently some people are claiming it takes a huge amount of cpu to do this in real time, PCs don't have enough yet. What is being speculated though, is that Nintendo has created a hardware solution, that will be part of the new specialized GPU. Only time will tell.
"No More Heroes is a really great game. A very amazing game. I think No More Heroes is a great game, there's no other action game like it for the Wii. If it was a band, it would be really energetic, like the Arctic Monkeys." - SUDA 51
This was done in the most recent Unreal engine IIRC, but with 256x256 displacement maps. Obviously not as detailed... The newer version, UT2006 has a better system, although details haven't been released. UT2006 engine is being developed for all of the next gen consoles. FYI, NVidia is building the display tech for the Revolution as they did for the 360 - and the 360 DOES have a Displacement Mapping implementation.

I thought that ATI was once again developing the hardware for Nintendo? But nVidia is developing the technology? I heard it was the other was around... or rather, ATI was working everything graphicswise, and IBM was doing all the CPU stuff.

Actually you're right. It was the PS3 that was getting it's video chipset done by nvidia. XBox360 was also ATI. I should have verified before I said anything. At least I got it right that they both had the same video hardware developer.

Go ATI! ;) If it's made by a Canadian Company it has to be good :D

BoingBoing's on a roll today. Check out these
magnets. In particular, the really big ones, where they have the warning message about that they can break your arm if mishandled. The magnetic liquid is cool too, and pretty cheap!
