A redesign might explain why the NDS suddenly has stock issues in Japan, apparently the going price on a used DS is up to $287US there.

I hope it's something similar to that though. Styled like the revolution, with the clear bubble style buttons and white shell, nice and round and smooth :)
And I agree, why produce more of the current model when a new design is in the works. And they did say a new shipment would be out later in January?

That's what I was thinking too... how could it just, sell out? Maybe Nintendo was pulling the leftover units of the regular DS?... They sold around a million over december, I would assume there'd be a lot more stocked than that...

But then if you look at the Japanese game sales charts, the majority of games are NDS. That's a scary amount of demand all of a sudden...

That's 1/4th of the total DS sales in Japan ever, in one month (as opposed to the other 3/4 in a year). My math puts that at roughly 20 DS's sold per minute that entire month. If they weren''t producing units to meet demand, stock would be gone.
